Sheehan Criticizes Pritzker’s ICE Accountability Commission After First Meeting (Homer Glen, IL) – State Rep. Sheehan, R–Homer Glen, is sharply criticizing Gov. JB Pritzker’s Illinois Accountability Commission following its first meeting, accusing the panel of promoting anti-law enforcement rhetoric and wasting taxpayer dollars.

The commission, created by Pritzker to examine the actions of federal immigration enforcement officials operating in Illinois, met for the first time during the holiday season. Sheehan, a suburban law enforcement officer who represents the 37th District in the Illinois House, said the meeting focused more on politics than accountability.

“This first commission meeting was filled with anti-law enforcement rhetoric and represents yet another waste of taxpayer money, pursuing political goals instead of exposing truth,” Sheehan said in a statement. He added that the commission is “not a court of law” and lacks a mandate to fairly represent all perspectives on federal immigration enforcement.

Sheehan argued that the commission is part of what he described as the governor’s ongoing attacks on law enforcement. He pointed to the SAFE-T Act as another example of Pritzker’s policies that, in his view, undermine public safety and the rule of law.

According to Sheehan, the governor’s approach has failed to adequately protect crime victims while placing additional scrutiny on police officers and federal law enforcement agents carrying out their duties.

“With Law Enforcement Appreciation Day this week, I will be keeping all of our law enforcement officers, including federal law enforcement officials, in my prayers for their safety and for a softening of the rhetoric against them by their statewide elected officials,” Sheehan said.

The Illinois Accountability Commission was established to review interactions between state and local agencies and federal immigration authorities. Supporters say it is intended to promote transparency and accountability, while critics, including Sheehan, argue it unfairly targets law enforcement and advances a political agenda.
