Stratton Calls Hostage Release a “Hopeful Moment” and Urges Push for Peace, Humanitarian Aid (Chicago, IL) – U.S. Senate candidate Juliana Stratton on Monday called the release of the remaining surviving hostages held by Hamas a “profoundly hopeful” step toward peace, while urging increased humanitarian aid and a long-term diplomatic solution in the Middle East.
In a statement, Stratton reflected on the two years since Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel, calling it a period marked by “unimaginable loss and suffering” for families in Israel and Gaza.
“I am profoundly hopeful that the release of the remaining hostages held for two painful years will mark not only an end to hostilities but also the beginning of a true path toward peace for all those in the region,” Stratton said.
She expressed sympathy for families affected on both sides of the conflict and emphasized the need for reconciliation.
“The chasms of grief are deep, and I pray for all those who have lost loved ones in this conflict. And I hope that the hostages who have been returned to their families find peace and comfort in their reunions,” she said.
Stratton, a Democrat and current Illinois lieutenant governor running for U.S. Senate, called for a renewed commitment to humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza, where civilian suffering has continued amid violence and displacement.
“We must also commit to an immediate and sustained surge of humanitarian aid to Gaza, ensuring that families have access to food, medical care, and a true path to rebuilding,” she said.
Framing the hostage release as a turning point, Stratton urged U.S. leaders and the international community to seize what she described as an opportunity for a permanent ceasefire and negotiated peace.
“Together, we can achieve a future rooted in dignity, security, and self-determination for all. This hopeful moment can lay the foundation for sustained peace and a lasting solution for Israelis and Palestinians.”
Stratton is seeking to succeed retiring U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin in the 2026 election and has emphasized diplomacy and global human rights as part of her emerging foreign policy platform
