Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” Threatens Behavioral Health Care for 134,000 Illinoisans (Springfield, IL) – The Community Behavioral Health Association of Illinois (CBHA) is calling on the Illinois Congressional delegation to reject President Trump’s proposed “Big Beautiful Bill,” which would slash Medicaid funding and resulting in the loss of behavioral health services for an estimated 134,000 Illinois citizens recipients receiving mental health or substance use treatment.
The bill’s sweeping cuts to Medicaid would eliminate care overall in Illinois to 334,000 recipients of which an estimated 40% or 134,000 who receive lifesaving mental health and addiction services from local providers, particularly in low-income and rural communities that are already stretched thin.
“This bill is a direct threat to the stability, safety, and health of thousands of Illinois families,” said CBHA CEO Blanca Campos. “We are urging every member of Illinois’ congressional delegation—Republican or Democrat—to stand up for their constituents and reject any legislation that dismantles access to behavioral health care. Illinois cannot afford to turn its back on 134,000 citizens who rely on Medicaid for help with depression, anxiety, trauma, or opioid addiction. These aren’t numbers on a spreadsheet—these are real lives at stake.”
CBHA is calling on lawmakers to reject the “Big Beautiful Bill” and instead work toward bipartisan solutions that expand, not gut, behavioral health access.
