Willie Wilson Calls for Hilario Dominguez to Exit Chicago Board of Education Race Amid Allegations (Chicago, IL) — Chicago mayoral candidate Dr. Willie Wilson is calling on Hilario Dominguez to withdraw from the race for president of the Chicago Board of Education, arguing that Dominguez should not continue his campaign while he faces allegations of sexual misconduct involving a minor.

Wilson renewed his criticism of Dominguez following a television appearance on WGN’s The Point with Tahman Bradley. His comments came after NBC 5 broadcast an interview with the person who has made the allegations against Dominguez, allowing her to publicly describe her claims.

Wilson has also criticized Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago Teachers Union for continuing to support Dominguez while the matter is under investigation.

The dispute comes at a significant time for Chicago Public Schools, as the city continues its transition toward a fully elected Board of Education. The board oversees the nation’s fourth-largest school district and is responsible for major policy, budget and oversight decisions affecting hundreds of thousands of students and their families.

Under Chicago’s recent school governance changes, the Board of Education is moving toward an elected structure rather than relying entirely on mayoral appointments. The transition has increased attention on candidates seeking seats and leadership positions on the board, as well as on the organizations and political figures supporting them.

The president of the Board of Education has an important role in setting the tone and priorities of the board, presiding over meetings and helping guide discussions involving CPS policy, finances, academic performance and district accountability.

Against that backdrop, Wilson says allegations involving a candidate for the board’s leadership position should not be treated as a political matter that can simply be set aside.

“The young woman who made these allegations against Hilario Dominguez deserves much better than to be ignored and attacked by Mayor Johnson, Hilario Dominguez and the CTU — their conduct is reprehensible and disgusting,” Wilson said.

Wilson has specifically focused his criticism on the Chicago Teachers Union, arguing that the organization’s continued support of Dominguez conflicts with its stated position on sexual misconduct.

“The CTU has stated publicly that ‘Our union has zero tolerance for sexual misconduct,’ yet here they are continuing to support a man under investigation for that very same offense,” Wilson said.

The union has been a major political force in Chicago education and city politics, including its involvement in debates over school funding, staffing, labor contracts and district policy. Its support for candidates and positions on education issues can carry considerable political weight.

Wilson is demanding that the union and Johnson withdraw their support for Dominguez while the investigation continues.

His comments also follow a public response from Dominguez concerning the allegations. Wilson characterized that statement as an attack on the person making the accusations and objected to what he described as efforts to discredit her.

“The people of Chicago will not be gaslit and fooled by Mayor Johnson and the CTU,” Wilson said. “We demand that Hilario Dominguez exit the race and allow this brave woman to seek the justice she deserves without being subjected to baseless political attacks.”

The allegations against Dominguez have drawn attention in part because of the responsibilities associated with the Chicago Board of Education. The board is responsible for overseeing CPS at a time when the district faces significant challenges involving school budgets, enrollment, academic performance, staffing, school facilities and the long-term direction of the district.

Chicago’s transition to an elected school board was established as part of a broader effort to give voters a greater direct role in selecting the officials responsible for overseeing CPS. The change has also produced a more politically competitive environment surrounding board races, with candidates receiving support from unions, community organizations, elected officials and other political groups.

For candidates seeking board leadership, questions about their backgrounds and conduct can therefore have implications beyond an individual campaign. Board members are expected to exercise oversight of the school system and make decisions affecting students, educators, parents and taxpayers.

Wilson, who is running for mayor of Chicago, has made accountability a central theme of his campaign. His campaign describes him as an independent candidate who wants to reduce the cost of necessities such as groceries and housing, lower taxes on middle-class residents, improve standards in public schools, reduce crime and strengthen public safety across Chicago.

His latest criticism of Dominguez also fits into Wilson’s broader effort to challenge the political establishment surrounding City Hall and Chicago education policy.

The controversy remains politically and legally sensitive. The claims against Dominguez are allegations and should not be treated as established facts unless they are substantiated through an appropriate investigative or legal process. Wilson’s statements represent his political position that Dominguez should leave the race while the investigation remains active.

The controversy also places pressure on Johnson and the CTU to explain their continued support for Dominguez. Wilson is arguing that the organizations’ stated commitment to zero tolerance for sexual misconduct should guide their actions while the allegations are being examined.

For Chicago voters and others following the Board of Education transition, the dispute adds another layer to an already closely watched effort to determine who will oversee the city’s public school system.

Wilson is continuing to call for Dominguez to withdraw and for Johnson and the CTU to end their support for his candidacy.
