Rep. Niemerg Calls for Civility Following Death of Charlie Kirk (Dieterich, IL) – State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) issued a statement Wednesday urging greater civility in political discourse after the reported death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
In his statement, Niemerg described Kirk’s death as a “political assassination” and criticized what he characterized as inflammatory rhetoric from Democratic leaders, including Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
“This was a political assassination plain and simple,” Niemerg said. “The comments of political leaders like J.B. Pritzker, who said Republicans should ‘know no peace,’ are only fueling the hate and violence. They may not be the ones pulling the trigger, but they are certainly the ones helping deranged political activists justify their actions.”
Niemerg called on political leaders to tone down partisan attacks, saying disagreement is not an excuse for violence.
“People in America should not be murdered simply because they express a different opinion,” Niemerg said. “The over-the-top rhetoric from the far-left needs to be tempered and that starts with leaders on the other side of the aisle setting a better example.”
Niemerg offered prayers to Kirk’s family and described him as “a true American patriot.”
