Cicero Man Charged with Possession of Child Pornography (Cook County, IL) – A 23-year-old Cicero man has been charged with possession of child pornography following a Sheriff’s Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigation, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.
In July 2024, the ICAC Unit received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about a user on a social media app who had uploaded and disseminated files containing child pornography.
Through subpoenas and search warrants, Sheriff’s Police investigators confirmed that child sexual abuse materials (CSAM) were sent from that account and identified the account holder as Javier Figueroa, of the 3600 block of South Lombard Avenue.
On April 15, Sheriff’s Police investigators met with Figueroa, and after being issued his Miranda Warning, he admitted being the owner of the account and viewing child pornography on his cell phone. Police took possession of his phone and obtained a search warrant for it. A forensic analysis of the phone found more than 60 files containing CSAM on it, approximately 30 of which depicted children under 13 years old.
On June 11, Sheriff’s Police investigators arrested Figueroa. Later that day, the Cook State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of Dissemination of Child Pornography, a Class X felony, and one count of Possession of Child Pornography, a Class 2 felony, against him.
Figueroa appeared today at the Maywood Courthouse where a judge ordered him held in custody at Cook County Jail.
Since 2020, Sheriff’s Police ICAC Unit Investigations have led to charges against 55 people for cases involving victimization of children and child pornography.
The public is reminded that defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
