Former Chicago Police Officer Sentenced to 20 Years for Sex Crimes Involving Minors (Cook County, IL) – A former Chicago police officer was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving minors, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced.
David Deleon, 32, entered guilty pleas on October 10 to aggravated criminal sexual abuse and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving a victim under 18 and abuse of a position of trust. He also pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse causing bodily harm in a separate case investigated by Norridge Police.
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, investigators with the Sheriff’s Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit arrested Deleon on August 17, 2023, after discovering evidence on his cell phone that he assaulted underage victims and recorded lewd videos involving them.
Authorities said Deleon used his position as a Chicago police officer to meet the victims, inviting them to his home under the guise of official capacity before abusing them.
The investigation began on July 3, 2023, after Norridge Police provided evidence to the Sheriff’s Office. Norridge officers had previously arrested Deleon in March 2023 on charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a juvenile.
Deleon had been held without bond since August 18, 2023. He has since been classified as an inactive Chicago Police Department officer.
Sheriff Dart praised the work of investigators in the case, particularly those in the ICAC Unit, which focuses on crimes against children facilitated through technology. Further details about the victims were not released due to their age.
