Long Claims Debate Wins in GOP Senate Primary, Criticizes Chicago TV Coverage (Chicago, IL) – Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Pamela Denise Long says she has emerged victorious in every GOP primary debate she has attended this election cycle, while accusing two major Chicago television stations of providing unequal media coverage.
In a statement released Wednesday, Long’s campaign pointed to her performances at several forums, including a League of Women Voters debate in Peoria broadcast by WTVP (PBS Peoria), an AM 560 The Answer debate in Lisle, and a League of Women Voters forum in Chicago’s Southland region. The campaign described Long as among the top fundraising candidates participating in those events.
Long’s team also criticized ABC7 Chicago and NBC 5 Chicago, alleging the stations repeatedly focused coverage on two of her Republican opponents and declined requests from her campaign for equal airtime. The campaign noted that those same opponents later appeared alongside Long in debates and on-air appearances.
ABC7 and NBC 5 have not publicly responded to the campaign’s claims.
“Voters deserve to hear from every candidate and the truth about their platforms,” Long said in the statement. “When we stand on the debate stage, the results speak for themselves. Illinois voters want real leadership, real solutions, original thought, and a viable U.S. Senator candidate for working Americans.”
Long is running in the March 17 Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Illinois. Her campaign says it has gained momentum statewide, highlighting an “America First” policy platform that includes proposals for portable health insurance not tied to employment, expanded support for veterans transitioning to civilian life, stricter immigration enforcement and initiatives aimed at improving affordability for families.
Early voting is underway ahead of the primary election.
The Republican nominee will advance to the general election in November.
