Peters Criticizes Miller’s Silence on Iran Conflict in 2nd District Race (Chicago, IL) – The escalating conflict between the United States and Iran has spilled into the race for Illinois’ 2nd Congressional District, with candidate Robert Peters criticizing opponent Donna Miller for what he describes as a lack of public comment on the unfolding situation.

In a statement released Wednesday, Peters said that four days after former President Donald Trump launched military strikes against Iran — a move he characterized as an “illegal war” — Miller has not issued a public statement outlining her position. Peters’ campaign noted there were no posts addressing the conflict on Miller’s campaign, personal or government social media accounts or websites.

The conflict has reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least six U.S. service members, according to Peters’ campaign statement.

Miller, a Cook County commissioner and candidate for Congress, has not publicly responded to Peters’ criticism.

Peters also pointed to Miller’s political backing from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). According to campaign finance reports cited in the statement, an AIPAC-affiliated political action committee, “Affordable Chicago Now!,” has spent $2.4 million on advertising supporting Miller’s campaign.

“The biggest cheerleader for this war, AIPAC, also happens to be the biggest funder of Commissioner Miller’s campaign,” Peters said in the statement. “With six American service members dead, the last thing we need is a representative in Congress who stays silent to appease her donors.”

AIPAC has publicly expressed support for U.S. military action aligned with Israeli security interests, though the organization has not commented specifically on Peters’ remarks.

Peters has positioned himself as an outspoken critic of the military action in Iran, saying he would support a War Powers Resolution to limit presidential authority to engage in armed conflict without congressional approval if elected.

The 2nd District Democratic primary has become a high-profile contest between establishment-backed and progressive candidates. Peters has secured endorsements from several national progressive figures and organizations, including Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC, the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs Votes, Jewish Voice for Peace Action, A New Policy PAC and the Working Families Party.

The primary election is scheduled for later this month.
