Rep. Sheehan Slams CPD Over Reported Refusal to Assist Federal Agents at Anti-ICE Protest (Homer Glen, IL) – State Rep. Patrick Sheehan (R-Homer Glen) is criticizing the Chicago Police Department following reports that officers were ordered not to aid federal agents under attack during a protest on the city’s Southwest Side.

According to dispatch records obtained by Fox News, Chicago’s chief of patrol allegedly directed officers not to respond when Border Patrol and ICE agents were surrounded and rammed by demonstrators during an anti-ICE operation. Federal officials said the agents were assaulted with smoke, gas, and debris before backup arrived, and described the attackers as “domestic terrorists.” Several arrests were later confirmed.

Sheehan, who has served nearly 20 years as a police officer, condemned what he called a dangerous politicization of law enforcement.

“Politics being injected into policing is a big reason why we’re seeing this shocking rise of violence against federal officers,” Sheehan said. “Being told to stand down while fellow officers are in danger goes against every instinct, principle, and bit of training we hold dear.”

The representative said he was “shocked and disgusted” after hearing 911 audio from the incident. “Things like this should never happen,” he added.

Critics of Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration have pointed to past remarks in which Johnson described law enforcement as a “sickness” to be “eradicated,” arguing that the reported stand-down order reflects a willingness to compromise officer safety for political reasons.

The Chicago Police Department has not publicly commented on the reported order.

Sheehan, who represents Illinois’ 37th District, said he plans to continue pressing the issue, warning that officer morale and public safety are at risk if politics override police protocol.
